| My dad, Phil
Cossentino, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2007 @
10PM. Dad was proud to say that he was a US Navy
veteran, and prouder still, I think, to say that he was
one of the relatively few PT Boat veterans, although he
didn't talk about it much. It was only the last few
years that he told us any stories of his experiences, and
most of them were funny. Dad took many pictures during the war and was happy to be able to share them with so many people. He was a very talented man who could do many things and do them all extremely well. He could build and addition onto our family home, lay pipeline in extremely difficult places and, this might surprise some people, he could make his daughters wedding bouquets and he did! Dad was an amateur archeologist and made some very important discoveries. These discoveries have been written about in archeological magazines. Most of all, Dad was a people person. He made friends everywhere he went from New Jersey to the Philippines and places in between. It was very comforting to have so many people from so many different places and varied age groups attend Dad's calling hours. Many of these people none of us had met, but it was a joy to know he had touched so many people. Dad leaves behind his wife of over 60 years, Vivian (Dyer) Cossentino, three daughters and sons-in-law, 4 grandson, 1 granddaughter, their spouses and 3 great-grandchildren Dad has left us, to begin the next voyage that all of us will take one day. We know that when our earthly voyage is over, Dad will be waiting for us and will welcome us aboard and we will begin our next voyage together. Kathy (Cossentino) Sirean |
