PT 108 LITTLE DUCK

This site is dedicated to PT 108 and those who
served on her.

The development of this site came about
through my involvement with the Sumner
County Museum when I built the first model of PT 108 to supplement the display for her first commander Lt (jg) Sidney D. Hix.

He gave her the name of "Little Duck" from his
nickname for his fiancee and had the name
painted on the boat. When she was repaired
after the fateful mission on 22 August 1943,
the name was removed. In fact, all the boats
in Squadron 5 had the names removed.

Doing the research for "Little Duck" has been
rewarding in many ways. I have had the honor
of reading a tribute to Sidney by his
brother-in-law the late Bernarr Cresap and
corresponding with the family of his ship's
cook Jack O. Bell who was killed on the fatal
mission. Through the efforts of Dick Keresey, I have even been able to talk to "Little Duck" herself.

It is my greatest hope that those who view this
meager tribute will note that our freedom
came as result of so many young men and
women who have given their all. Additionally,
it is my greatest hope that I can make contact
with more crewmen and/or their families that served on the 108. It is my hope that this be a
constant work "in progress".

On January 6th, I lost one of my biggest supporters for this site, Phil Cossentino. I
never had the opportunity to meet him, yet
he provided so much. Happy sailing Phil.
